Modern Talavera Coffee Table: Part 1
Here at Mezcla Designs, we're mixing bold shades of blue.
The initial idea for our Talavera coffee table was to have an ebony-stained border with varying-hues of black tile, but once we saw these beauties from Tierra y Fuego, we were immediately sold.
We started our project off by sanding the rust off our hairpin legs, which were sustainably sourced from an old table given to us by a friend. We then cut and sized a plank of recycled wood, and gave it new life in a golden oak finish.
After drilling our cement board to the base of our coffee table, we applied tile adhesive and carefully began to lay out our tiles.
Talavera tiles are either hand-painted or stamped with a unique design. They're a seductive type of ceramic, and stem from several countries, including Spain and Mexico.
As far as arrangement goes, we decided to go with a simple look that will easily be considered a statement piece for any living room. Come back next week to see the final product.
